how do you feel todayKnow that I think of you every day. And pray for you each night.  You are not alone and I truly want to know how you feel today. In fact, I invite you to comment and share your thoughts, frustrations, rants, moments of clarity and grace, the funny stuff and the heartbreaking interactions that bring on that insidious guilt we have all experienced.

Blessed be, caregivers.  Sharing your story may help a caregiver who is feeling very alone.

      Jean,
Dealing with delusions is hard. How to deal with them depends on what is going on in them. There were timed when I simply went with it. If it was harmless I went with it. If he was combative I gave him a mild tranquilizer to clam him. The more we try to bring them into our reality the more combative they get. Imagine what it would be like if someone insisted you were 70 years old when you knew you were only 27 and you were frantic wondering where your children were. In a case like that I would assure her the children were safe and on their way to get her. I would ask her to tell me about them. How old they were, their names, etc.
If a man insists he has to go to work you might tell him it’s a holiday weekend and he has the day off. Ask him about his job and the people he works with.
If they insist you are staling their money, give them a few dollars, You can get it back later. Of give them play money or an outdated credit card.
If you are in danger. Call for help and lock yourself in your room until they calm down or help arrives. Please stay in touch and contact me anytime.
