Good Morning Caregivers – A Few Days Away

Today I am headed to Pittsburgh for the annual Pennwriters Conference where I am  attending  several writing workshops to help me improve my work as well as doing some teaching myself. Every year I look forward to spending time with this wonderful group of writers, from beginners to  best-selling authors, who have become my friends and who inspire me every day.

I have chosen some of my past blogs to run during my absence. I’ll be back here and writing on Wednesday, May 20th.  Please don’t hesitate to comment as you see fit. I look forward to sharing more with you on my return.

Good MorningBobbi! I wanted to ask you something. Do you know if anyone has attempted to start a movement that would allow full time caregivers ( not otherwise employed ) to get affordable care , by exempting us from the minimum income requirement?

After many years of caring for my mother ( 87, Alzheimer’s, now severe ) my body finally caved to the stress and I contracted a MRSA infection of the blood. I was life-flighted to hospital and spent a week there, having to have a PIC line put in for administration of Vancomycin. Uninsured because I was unable to qualify for Affordable Care and health insurance on open market, at 60, even as healthy as I was prior to, and am again following MRSA, is astronomical. I know I am not the only one in this situation and am sure MANY would benefit by getting such an exemption before the President before he leaves office. It seems to me that stressing the economic impact of millions of patients AND caregivers, and the strain this will put on economy as years pass and numbers continue to skyrocket, would be a selling point and a place to start. What are you thoughts? Do you feel this is something to get rolling and would you be in? I look forward to hearing back from you. Blessings. Lisa Robinette

      Meek,
I am very sorry to learn you have been so ill. Being a caregiver has a tremendous impact on our health. I support any program that will ease the financial, physical, or emotional toll on us. I’m not sure what I can to do to be of assistance in getting your suggested program started but I am certainly interested in being updated on your thoughts and progress. Please stay in touch with me.
